‘Lot 303’, an as yet unnamed foal sired by the famous Shergar, poses for the cameras prior to an auction to be held at Goffs Sales, Kildare. On 8 February 1983, Shergar was kidnapped from the Ballymany Stud, Curragh, County Kildare, allegedly by the IRA. Shergar had been syndicated for £10 million by his owner, the Aga Khan, after winning the Epsom Derby by a record ten lengths. Despite a wide-ranging investigation, no trace of the horse was ever found.
