The Babes (or Children) in the Wood. Orphaned Babes taken off to be murdered by ruffians hired by wicked uncle. One ruffian repents and kills other, then abandons Babes who die in the wood and are covered with leaves by robins. Illustration by Randolph Caldecott (1846-86) for the ballad of c1600.
