Henry Thompson (1820-1904) British surgeon and urologist who performed lithotrity on Leopold I of the Belgians and Napoleon III of France . Founded the first Cremation Society in London, 1874. He had a scheme to test efficacy of prayer in hospitals (mentioned in Arnold Bennett 'Clayhanger'). He was also interested in Astronomy and presented a number of instruments to the Royal Greenwich Observatory. Cartoon by Edward Linley Sambourne in the Punch's Fancy Portraits series from 'Punch' (London, 6 August 1881).
