The Round Ireland Yacht Race is run every second year, starting in 1980. The course, starting from Wicklow Sailing Club, is simple: ‘Leave Ireland and all its islands excluding Rockall to starboard.’ The eventual winner was the yacht Lightning, in a time of just under 102 hours.
