Members of the Garda Technical Squad examine the Fiat 131 that was being driven by Dr Jim Donovan when a bomb planted in the car exploded. Dr Donovan, Senior Forensic Scientist with the Garda Technical Bureau, was critically injured in the explosion at Newlands Cross, County Dublin. The bomb is believed to have been the work of Dublin criminal Martin Cahill, ‘The General’, as Dr Donovan was due to testify against him in an armed robbery case.
Despite living in constant pain, Dr Donovan continued his work providing valuable forensic evidence to fight crime for many years after the attack.
