40ft. ketch rigged catamaran, Rongo, entering Dun Laoghaire harbour. Mr James Wharram of Manchester, England, with a crew of two others made the crossing of the North Atlantic from Trinidad to Dun Laoghaire. The crossing took seven weeks rather than the expected four. Mr Wharram Had intended to cross the Irish Sea to Conway but were forced to put in at Dun Laoghaire owing to bad weather warnings and failing supplies. Picture shows Mr James Wharram, (centre) with his German crew, Jutta Schultze-Rhonholf (22) (left) of Kiel, the cook and Ruth Merseburger (38), (right) of Merseburger, the navigator.
