Richard II (1367-1400) king of England from 1377; forced to abdicate in September 1399 in favour of Henry Bolingbroke (Henry IV). Died, probably murdered, in Pontefract Castle early in 1400. A member of the Plantagenet dynasty. Wood engraving c1900.
