Sunlight Chambers..1971..16.04.1971..04.16.1971..16th April 1971..Much loved by Dubliners today Sunlight Chambers was not always so popular. Built in 1901 it was designed by the architect Edward Ould. Because Ould was an English architect there was much resentment among the establishment. On its completion "The Irish Builder" described it as "The Ugliest Building in Dublin" later it referred to the building as being "Prententious and Mean"..Built for Lever Brothers who had built Port Sunlight,they were famous for their Sunlight Soap..The highlights of the building are the two multicoloured terracotta friezes which adorn the building.The friezes are said to show the history of hygiene and wrap the building from Parliament St round onto Essex Quays.
