Model of skull of Piltdown man (Eanothropus dawsoni) as reconstructed by Dr Smith Woodward. Dark areas are from the original fossil, the light are the restored areas. Most of the lower jaw restored on far side. From 'Scientific American' 7 November 1914. This supposed fossil 'discovered' near Lewes, Sussex, England 1912 by local solicitor and amateur archaeologist. Later proved to be a hoax.
