The Astronauts of the Apollo 13 moon mission visited Ireland as part of a European tour. James Lovell, John Swigert and Fred Haise were on a planned landing on the lunar surface ,when two day after blast off on 11 April 1970 an explosion aboard the craft resulted in one of the most amazing missions in the Apollo series. The explosion placed the crew in severe danger and it was only through much skill and courage that the astronauts managed to make emergency repairs to enable them to return home. Up until they returned on 17th April the world held its breath as the astronauts fought their way back to Earth.
