AP (Alan Patrick) Herbert (1890-1971) British writer, humourist and politician. Member of Parliament for Oxford University (1935-1950), contributor to 'Punch' and campaigner for reform of the divorce laws and changes in the laws on obscenity. His best-remembered novel is 'The Water Gypsies' (1930). From 'Famous British Authors' (London, 1937).
