James Thomas Brudenell, seventh Earl of Cardigan (1797-1868) English cavalry officer; major-general 1847. Commanded the light cavalry brigade in Crimean War, which was destroyed in the infamous 'charge' at Balaclava, 1854, which is immortalised in Tennyson's poem 'The Charge of the Light Brigade'.
