Conferring of Honorary Degrees (LL.D.) by the National Council for Educational Awards in Dublin Castle Conference Centre, Dublin. Picture shows Taoiseach Albert Reynolds, T.D. presenting Mr. J.C. Nagle, former Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, with his degree. Mr. Nagle, from Cork, was Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations. He was the first Chairman of the European Commission set up under the aegis of FAO for the control of Foot and Mouth disease. He was also involved in the 1948 and 1956 Trade Agreements with the UK. Mr. Nagle became the first Chairman of NCEA in 1971.
