Taoiseach Visits Peatland Developments. (K71)..1976..22.11.1976..11.22.1976..22nd November 1976..An Taoiseach, Liam Cosgrave TD, visited several peatland developments in Counties, Laois, Offaly and Kildare. The purpose of the visit was to see how the farming community were managing to recover lands for agriculture after Bord na Mona was finished harvesting there..Many problems were outlined to the Taoiseach regarding title of the land and the effects of industry (Bord na Mona and E.S.B.)leaving the area. Questions were also raised in relation to grants etc which would be available to improve the area (eg drainage)for farming..As many were of the areas were seen to be disadvantaged it was hoped that intervention from the E.E.C. would be available..The series of pictures shows the Taoiseach viewing the area and meeting with all the interested parties..
