Fragment of a comb. Ivory, probably Malwa, Madhya. Pradesh circa 2nd century AD. The 'ivory carvers' guild of the ancient city of Vidisa (Bilsa) in Malwa was famous for such luxury commodities as ivory combs and furniture. The products of these workshops were traded as far as the Mediterranean world.
