The Blood Transfusion Service launches the country’s first bone marrow and platelet register, intended to provide tissue-typed potential donors for designated bone marrow transplant units at St James’s Hospital and Our Lady’s Hospital, both in Dublin, to bring hope to those who suffer from leukaemia and other blood disorders. U2’s Larry Mullen Jr was there to help mark the event.
