Marble kouros (youth) carved about 550 BC from Didyma. Accompanying the seated statues in sanctuaries along the Sacred Way at Kidyma were figures of standing men and women. The bare shoulder indicates that this statue was nude and may have been a votive offering in the form of an athletic youth. The soft features and rounded, fleshy forms are typical of East Greek sculpture.
