Gresham College London, 1739 engraving by George Vertue (1684-1765) From John Ward 'Lives of the Professors of Gresham College'. Although its true origins are somewhat earlier, the Royal Society was formally constituted at Gresham College on 28 November 1660, its meeting place until 1710. Robert Hooke (1635-1703) became professor of physics here in 1665.
