Patrick Joseph Noel Purcell born on 23 December 1900 in Dublin, Ireland. Noel Purcell died on 3 March 1985. Patrick Joseph Noel Purcell was born at 11a Lower Mercer Street in Dublin, and was educated at the Christian Brothers school in nearby Synge Street.
Noel Purcell was an Irish film actor and television actor. Stage-trained in the classics in Dublin, Purcell moved into films in 1934.
He went on to appear in nearly sixty films, often as a sailor and nearly always with a long white beard. Among his best-remembered films are: "Moby-Dick," as the ship's carpenter; "The Millionairess," as Professor Merton; "Mutiny on the Bounty," as Seaman McCoy; and "Lord Jim," as Captain Chester. His last film was John Huston's "The Mackintosh Man" (1973). In 1991, a new road was built near his birthplace, and was named Noel Purcell W
